On 22 September 2025, NAVIGATOR held its workshop “Saving the Furniture: Which Elements of the Multilateral System Must Be Sustained – and How?” at the University of Ottawa, in partnership with NUPI, GSPIA and CIPS.
This one–day event brought together academics, policymakers, and practitioners to reflect on the future of multilateralism at a time of increasing fragmentation and uncertainty. Across a series of panels, participants debated how core elements of global governance can and should be reformed to ensure effectiveness in addressing pressing global challenges and fairness aacross regions and actors.
From discussions on trade, tax, and financial governance to climate cooperation, the workshop highlighted both the risks of inaction and the opportunities for innovative, inclusive reform.
